Cuckoo House

Footscray

Cuckoo House is a new, single-storey ‘contemporary Edwardian’ take on a traditional cuckoo clock house in Footscray, Victoria. The original dwelling was an old Edwardian, and, despite being much loved by the owners, the logistics of building a rear extension made it impossible to retain. Accordingly, we decided to retain the Edwardian character of Cuckoo House by introducing a modern design to the existing building footprint. The new verandah pays respect to the original verandah by servicing the original function but stands proud like a Japanese Torii.
